AtA gets reviewed + A Word From The Admin

Good Morning Boys and Girls. I wanted to share with you this glowing review we got from the guys over @ TechWag here.

A good system administrator is worth their weight in gold, anyone that can run around the networked systems and fix the bizarre arcane things that happen on a daily basis, regardless of operating system, is one of those folks that end up becoming a key person in an organization. If you do not love them and cherish them, then the company is going to loose probably one of the most valuable assets they can own, a decent system administrator.

We were told about a site called “Ask the Admin” that is right over here, a while back, and as we started looking at it, the advice is good, and really realistic in terms of dealing with a number of issues that seem to crop up daily. If you need or want a generalized question answered, you can ask them. If you want to find the answer to a question that your boss is asking, like should we use full or partial RSS feeds, then you can find the answer here. Need to know if you can downgrade from Vista to XP legally, then the answer is right here.

In other words, this is your database of tidbits that makes your job as a system admin, or even just a general employee in a company fairly happy, you become the answer person, and you become the key person in the organization. This site can help you get there. In other words, we found it great that they have made this site, and it is actually very easy to read, and grock the answers they are giving. .. Sites have been popping up republishing our articles and praising our work. We thank everyone for understanding what it is that we are trying to do! We have come across some great younger bloggers out there with a flare for technology and wanted to give them their props as well. We have recently had Micah and Matt Parnell join the team, providing some fresh College insight for our budding admins. In our Internet journeys we have also come across a gem of an admin over @ her Ubuntu blog here. Maybe she will want to come on board and give you GUYS a run for your money! Of course we don’t want to forget the guys who have been around for a while El Di Pablo, The SlothMan, Commodore64 and Psymon. Keep up the great work guys! We are helping more and more people and can barely keep up with the influx of questions. We LOVE it! We are helping everyone, but can’t publish every issue – sorry guys! If you want to help us out let me know.

If AtA helps you out please let your friends know! Favorite us on Technorati, subscribe to our RSS feed or AtA’s Email Updates! Keep the dream alive.

We love all the interest and we are happy with the growing participation! We are up to 50 syndicated readers and more than 30,000 uniques a month from all over the world. AtA is growing up and growing up fast. Corporate sponsorship has been tossed around by a few large companies and some local tech shops. We are still in this to win it but we are not looking to sell out! Our readers are much more important than some dough… After all we do have REAL jobs other than blogging!

Maybe one day it will be our REAL jobs – but until then I got some remote consulting to do. VNC here I come!

I have been reading for about a month now and followed a link from Lifehacker. I like your site a lot and want to say thank you for pointing out a young female admin. That is after all who I am.

Thanks for recognizing in a world full of pig headed sexists!

  2. Commodore

I’ve managed to notice a weird phenomena in Blogging and RSS. It’s kind of like “I’m not just a [high rank] in Hair Club For Men, I’m a client.” I’d have to say I enjoy reading the posts as much as writing them. aTa is first on my list of RSS feeds in my Egress news aggregator for WM5 because I’m a co-writer. It’s on my list ALTOGETHER because it’s a great read and always manages to evoke a smile on my morning trip into the city.

  3. The Slothman

That is nice to be recognized.

What I’d like to add is that the true value of this site is the fact that no single admin knows everything and if you find an admin who claims they do…run like hell!

The value is in the diversity in experiences and skills and the fact that the information is disseminated to each other free of charge, and all of us who have contributed, and I suspect all who have read, have gleaned something or infinite value to their day to day tasks of keeping our applications and services available as close to 100% of the time as possible and troubleshooting that odd problem that inevitably creeps into our daily lives.

To all the contributors, thank you. To all the readers, thank you too. And to Karl who has given us this free home to learn and post my boring drivel…thank you!

you have a very good thing going here. i enjoy the information you provide on a daily basis. kudos all around. no one admin knows everything like was said above. collaboration is the way to go.

  5. Karl L. Gechlik

Thank you for your kind words guys and all your contributions. Lets word twice as hard to get more content up, help more people and make a bigger impression on the corporate world.

The AtA family expanding and growing up is wonderful. If you have any suggestions for us leave them in the comments. My Ti’Vo’s calling and its Big Love time!

Thanks for the recognition Karl! One of the things I like most about the site, is that I can post my questions, and get the help I need from the rest of the team, as well as help others out when I can.
